So I broke my 50mm 1.8 lens. This picture is what bokeh looks like from a lens without a front element! yay! Well i popped it back together and it still basically works, it just doesn’t auto focus anymore which is fine except it makes self portraits incredibly hard.
Well anyways, i’m considering buying a replacement lens… i’m thinking about the 50mm 1.4 or the 85mm 1.8. However if i do that then i won’t be able to get a small pocketable camera… so i’m not sure which i should get…. small camera (probably panasonic tz5) ooooor spiffy new lens. decisions, decisions! Any suggestions?

Gå for 50mm f/1.4. Hvis du likte bakgrunnsuskarpheten fra f/1.8 vil du elske f/1.4! Koster vel mellom 3-4000 kr her til lands, men sjekk adorama elle B&H, ebay fra Hong Kong er også kanske trygt!

if you don’t have a p&s atm, i would go for the small-camera-option.. especially for your norway-time, you should capture every single memorable moment! and i wouldn’t recommend bringing a dslr to a norwegian party (not that i’ve been in norway yet but european parties are rough
)
i had the same dilemma couple of months ago.. first bought a p&s and bought my nifty fifty couple of weeks ago!
when are you leaving btw?

wow… that shot is sooo interesting… woah, I’d favourite it back at flickr without even thinking xD
and about the lens… gee, I know nothing about lenses, but the comment above sounds like a quite sensible advice
you’ll figure it out ;D

woah i don’t really understand the first comment too well. i tried to put it through a translator rather unsuccessfully. is that icelandic? anyways it seems like you’re suggesting the 1.4 50mm lens? hm.
and Worak, you might be right. i just don’t know how much i’d be able to tolerate the lack on controls and quality. Ugh it’s so hard to decide. but it’s true, i don’t want to miss a moment!
and me? haha. well thanks. you have inspired me to consider posting it to flickr. maybe tomorrow if i get time. thanks for the suggestions by the way.

Hm yeah ur right about the lack on controls and quality, but a great photographer like you will make awesome shots, no matter what kinda shitty camera you’re using. cmon you’re a holga-user, i mean..
(buh excuse my crappy english)

true words of wisdom and you might have convinced me. convenience is pretty key. and hey, your english is great!
